Got No Milk/Critical Needs

“It was nice of you to donate money for us to have milk. For my family it was hard paying another bill, but now it is easier. Thank you, I really appreciate it. The milk is really good.” (Elementary student)

Support for the Got No Milk and Critical Needs programs provides support for over 2,800 children from low-income families during the school year.

Milk will cost 35 cents per carton or about $30 per semester or $60 per year for each child. Our goal, in partnership with Fargo Public Schools is to provide one serving of milk or juice during mid-morning snack break to all students eligible for free and reduced lunches. We will also provide milk for students who are not eligible for free and reduced lunch, but whose families are struggling to make ends meet.

In addition, many families struggle to provide adequate shoes, winter clothing, transportation, and hygiene supplies.  This means many students are negatively impacted because they simply do not have the critical needs resources to fully provide for their children.

GOT NO MILK

For the past seven years, our Foundation has worked hard to raise funds for the GOT NO MILK program which provides milk for elementary students for their mid-morning snack. Teachers tell us that morning milk truly contributes to increased attention in the classroom, and we all know how important it is for physical development.

In partnership with Fargo Public Schools, it is our goal to provide one serving of milk or juice during mid-morning snack break to all students eligible for free and reduced lunches. We will also provide milk for students who are not eligible for free and reduced lunch, but whose families are struggling to make ends meet.

CRITICAL NEEDS

Recognizing there are a number of FPS students and families living in poverty, the Foundation provides funds to schools serving a large percentage of children who qualify for free or reduced cost meals.

The funds are given to the schools with general guidelines to assist students with clothing, school supplies, bus transportation, activity fees, and other basic needs as observed by the school staff.

The intent of the fund is to enable school staff to respond quickly and quietly to the student needs they see. Since 2000, the Foundation has provided over $200,000 in critical needs funds to FPS schools serving numerous low-income students.

The fund is made possible with gifts from Foundation donors designated for this purpose.
